Is the Hell Fact or Fable-Part 1
What is hell? Some believe in its existence
and some not! Is the hell real or a sign?
Do you believe in hell? Where it is? Is it a real place or
is a fable?
The oldest manuscripts of the Hebrew word for Hell is sheol appears 54 times.
The word hell is used in the Bible about 54-65 times. The
King James Version of the Bible translates this Hebrew word sheol, 31 times as
"hell," 31 times as "grave," and 3 times as
"pit." So in the "Old Testament," the KJ version uses the
word "hell" 31 times, it also
interesting to see that the same Hebrew word Sheol was also translated as
“grave" and "pit."
In the "New Testiment," the King James Version
translates the Greek word "hades" in all 10 places it occurs, as
"hell." The King James Version also uses the word "hell" or
"hellfire" when translating the Greek word "Gehenna" 12
times.
Other Bible translations interpreted the Hebrew word sheol and Greek word hades in diverse
forms, many translations don't use the English word "hell" instead trasliterated the Hebrew and Greek
words directly as "sheol" and "hades."
What the Lord Jesus Christ said about Hell:
- Matthew 5:22 There is fire in hell
- Matthew 5:29 He said it is better that some part of your body to perish then for your whole body to be cast into hell.
- Matthew 10:28, Luke 12:5 He said to fear God who is able to destroy both body and Soul in hell (Isaiah 10:16-18)
- Matthew 11:23 Heaven is above, hell is beneath
- Matthew 16:18 The gates of hell shall not prevail against the church
- Matthew 18:8-9 There is fire in hell and last for ever
- Matthew 23:15-33 He said the Pharisees and their converts were children of hell and said to them how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
- Mark 9:43, 45 The fire is not quenched and the worm dies not in hell (Isaiah 66:22-24)
- The Rich Man in Hell Luke 16:19-31 The Richman was tormented in the flames of hell, the rich man was able to see Abraham and Lazarus, there will be no forgiveness in hell and man don’t find it, man ask for only a drop of water (this shows mankind an idea how hot it is and unbearable).
Jahannam (Arabic: جهنم) is the Islamic corresponding to Hell. It is also mentioned in the Quran as: "That which Breaks to Pieces, Blazing Fire and "The Abyss. The Arabic term Jahannam as the root origin from comes from the Hebrew Gehenna, originally the name of a valley outside Jerusalem. Where all the trash is burnt.
In the Quran Jahannam (Hell) is described as having seven entries, each for a particular group of sinners, the sinners have grade (or measure) based on their deeds and hypocrites are said to dwell in the lowest parts of the depths of the Jahannam. It is strange to note that Sinners are the fuel for the fire of Jahannam along with incredulous Jinns and stones. The fire consumes their skins, changing the colour to black due to its intensity of hell. Jahannam has a shadow of smoke ascending in three columns, which yields no shade of coolness against the fierce blaze. Its sparks are described to be as "huge as a palace." Jahannam is described to have nineteen angels, who will punish evildoers. The boss over these angels, as mentioned in the Quran, is Maalik. According to Prophet Muhammad he is an angel, very cruel & unsympathetic, and he will listen the agony of dwellers of hell after 1000 years and that will also result in negative response.
Men is the acting fuel in Hell (Quran 66:6) |
Islam teaches that Hell is a real place geared up by God for those who do not believe in Him, dissenters against His laws, and reject His message. Hell is a real place, not a simple state of phsycology or a spiritual entity. The terrors, hurt, sorrow, and chastisement are all genuine, but different in scenery than their earthly counterparts. Hell is the ultimate embarrassment and defeat, and nothing is degradation than it.
“Our Lord! Surely, whom You admit to the Fire, indeed You have disgraced him, and never will the wrongdoers find any helpers.” (Quran 3:192).
It is said that the words "paradise" and "hell" are each repeated 77 times in the quran.
The Names of Hell is used with different names in Islamic texts. Each name gives a separate description. They are as follows:
- Jaheem – fire - because of the blazing fire.
- Jahannam - Hell - because of the depth of the pit.
- Ladthaa - blazing fire - because of the flames.
- Sa’eer - blazing flame - because it is kindled and ignited.
- Saqar - because of the intensity of the heat.
- Hatamah - broken pieces or debris - because it breaks and crushes everything that is thrown into it.
- Haawiyah - chasm or abyss - because the one who is thrown into it is thrown from top to bottom.
“And fear the Fire which is prepared for the disbelievers.” (Quran 3:131).
Amazing evidence About Eternityof Hell in the Bible
(1) Everyone will exist eternally either in heaven or hell (Daniel
12:2,3;Matthew 25:46; John 5:28; Revelation 20:14,15).
(2) Everyone has only one life in which to determine their
destiny (Hebrews 9:27).
(3) Heaven or hell is determined by whether a person
believes (puts their trust) in Christ alone to save them (John 3:16, 36,
etc.).
