AN INCREDIBLE FRIEND

Divine friendship results

Before we begin our Bible study Let us recite this verses:
A.“ Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path”. ( Psalm 119:105)
B.“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” ( John 4:24)

If you are new to the Bible then recite this verses:
A."For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
B.“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him" (John 3:36).

KING of Jeshurun Devotions on Psalms 31:11

"Because of all my enemies,
I am the utter contempt of my neighbors
and an object of dread to my closest friends—
those who see me on the street flee from me".

Here David is facing a great hardship losing his throne and fleeing from his kingdom. It seems he became an utter contempt to his neighbours. It seems he become a dreadful person even to his closest friends. Everyone was revering him when he was king but became enemies once he lost his position. All those friends might be loving the David for his kingship, power and wealth. We do see people most of the time are respecters of this temporary prosperity's in this world. The Bible says:

"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity" ( Prov 17:17).

"A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother".(Prov 18:24).

"A true friend is one who overlooks your failures and tolerates your success."
~ Doug Larson

"A friend is the one who comes in when the whole world has gone out. "
~ Grace Pulpit

Even at this time David had a beautiful friends one like Jonathan who loved David for his personality rather than what David was bestowed with.

Incredible friendship
1 Samuel 18:1-4

The Story
One of the most precious and profound relationships David enjoyed was the friendship he had with Jonathan, king Saul's son.Jonathan was placed in David's life at the very time David needed a genuine friend. And Jonathan proved to be the greatest and dearest friend that David would know in his entire life.

All other friends was well with David when he was a King but suddenly everyone become his enemies and started flee from him.For David it was a hard time to realize this truth because when there is weal everybody will be available but when there is woe nobody will be available. As believers we are to comfort those who are in distress and turmoil. I do remember a story once told by my friend that a donkey had a dreadful situation fallen in the pit.And all the villagers came to know about it and instead helping it bring out from the pathetic condition.Everybody started throwing the stones but at last the donkey determined with patience let people throw the stones on me I wont be discouraged  as more the stones were thrown on it it build up it confidence as people started throwing huge pile of stones even though the donkey was greatly hurt by all this people and wounded it reached the top of the position of the pit by the same stones thrown and piled against it.The donkey came out of the pit and saved it’s life. When pressures surmounted we face situation that people instead stretching their helping hand tries to throw stones on us this should not be the attitude of the believer. When you see people around you in problem and what will be our approach?

Better to go to the house mourning
Are we fleeing from the people who are in distress? We do need to share our comfort and prayers those who are in distress. This  will make a huge impact in the lives of  the people. There is a great saying  in the Bible “It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart” ( Eccl 7:2).

Jesus with the poor
Jesus approach was the same he said when you  make a feast : “But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous"( Luke 14:13-14). Be ready to follow in the footsteps of the heavenly father.

David had a very painful experience with his closest friends. There is a reason that Bible always says to trust in Lord.

“O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you” (Psalms 84:12).
