Eric Henry Liddell (16 January 1902 – 21 February 1945, Chinese:; pinyin: āi ĕr) was a Scottish athlete, rugby union international and missionary. His surname is pronounced /lɪdəl/ and rhymes with fiddle.
Liddell was the winner of the Men's 400 metres at the 1924 Summer Olympics held in Paris. He was portrayed in the film Chariots of Fire.

Born in China, Liddell returned there as a Protestant missionary in later life.

Eric Liddell, often called the "Flying Scotsman" after the record breaking locomotive, was born in Tianjin (formerly transliterated as Tientsin) (Chinese) in North China, second son of the Rev & Mrs James Dunlop Liddell who were Scottish missionaries with the London Missionary Society. Liddell was born in 1902 and went to school in China until the age of five. At the age of six, he and his brother Robert, eight years old, were enrolled in Eltham College, Mottingham, a boarding school in England for the sons of missionaries. Their parents and sister Jenny returned to China. During the boys' time at Eltham their parents, sister and new brother Ernest came home on furlough two or three times and were able to be together as a family - mainly living in Edinburgh.

At Eltham, Liddell was an outstanding sportsman, being awarded the Blackheath Cup as the best athlete of his year, playing for the First XI and the First XV by the age of 15, later becoming captain of both the cricket and rugby union teams. His headmaster described him as being 'entirely without vanity'.
Eric Liddell became well-known for being the fastest runner in Scotland while at Eltham College. Newspapers carried the stories of his successful track meets. Many articles stated that he was a potential Olympic winner, and no one from their country had ever won a gold medal before.

Liddell was chosen to speak for Glasgow Students' Evangelical Union (GSEU) because he was a strong Christian. The GSEU hoped that he would draw large crowds, so that many people would hear the Gospel. The GSEU would send out a group of eight to ten men to an area where they would stay with the local population. It was Liddell's job to be the lead speaker and to evangelize the men of Scotland

Paris Olympics

During the summer of 1924, the Olympics were hosted by the city of Paris. Liddell was a committed Christian and refused to run on Sunday (the Christian Sabbath), with the consequence that he was forced to withdraw from the 100 metres race, his best event.During this time he was preaching in a nearby church in Paris. The schedule had been published several months earlier, and his decision was made well before the Games began. Liddell spent the intervening months training for the 400 metres, an event in which he had previously excelled. Even so, his success in the 400m was largely unexpected. The day of 400 metres race came, and as Liddell went to the starting blocks, an American masseur slipped a piece of paper into Liddell's hand with a quotation from 1 Samuel 2:30, "Those who honour me I will honour." Liddell ran with that piece of paper in his hand. He not only won the race, but broke the existing world record with a time of 47.6 seconds. A few days earlier Liddell had competed in the 200 metre finals, for which he received the bronze medal behind Americans Jackson Scholz and Charles Paddock, beating Harold Abrahams, who finished in sixth place. (This was the second and last race in which these two runners met.)
His performance in the 400 metres in Paris remained a world record for four years, and a European record for 12 years, until it was beaten by another British athlete, Godfrey Brown, at the Berlin Olympics.
After the Olympics and his graduation, Liddell continued to compete. Shortly after the 1924 Olympics, his final leg on the 4 x 400 metres race in a British Empire vs. USA contest helped secure the victory. A year later, in 1925, at the Scottish Amateur Athletics Association (AAA) meeting in Hampden Park in Glasgow, he equalled his own Scottish championship record of 10.0 seconds in the 100 yards, won the 220 yard contest in 22.2 seconds, won the 440 yard contest in 47.7, and participated in a winning relay team. He was only the fourth athlete ever to have won all three sprints at the SAAA, achieving this feat twice: in 1924 and 1925.
Because of his birth and death in the country some of China's Olympic literature lists the Scotsman as China's first Olympic champion.

After that he went to North China in 1925-1943 and became a Missionary. In 1943 he was imprisoned,In his last while he was in hospital he said to the nurse that his commitment is a “Complete commitment to the Lord”.

Is Jeshurun the Lord' chosen people in the Bible?

Yes

The Lord says in Isaiah 44:2: "Jeshurun, whom I have chosen ".
In order to have a good idea about Jeshurun, I have read 10 different versions of the Bible in addition to Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary.

In eight out of 10 versions, the Lord said:" Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.

"In one version (KJV), Jeshurun is written as JesurunIn the New Living Translation Jeshurun is translated to "O dear Israel"

In the footnotes of the verse Isaiah 44:2 it is said that: Jeshurun means the upright, the straight or the honest one, that is, Israel.

Well, Jeshurun is the upright, the straight or the honest IsraelBut from where in the original Hebrew version does the New Living Translation comes out with:

"O dear" which is not present at all in the original Hebrew version.

Anyway, let us see the criteria and characters of Jeshurun or the upright, the straight, the honest "O dear" Israel that cause the Lord to Chose them:

Isaiah 44:2

In these seven version, New International Version, New American Standard Bible, English Standard Version, The Message, Holman Christian Standard Bible, Amplified Bible and New Life Version:"This is what the LORD says… Do not be afraid (Do not fear, Fear not), O Jacob, my servant, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.

In King James Version

Thus saith the LORD…Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.

In Darby Translation

Thus saith Jehovah…Fear not, Jacob, my servant, and thou, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.

But in New Living Translation,

You find "O dear Israel" instead of Jeshurun"The Lord who made you and helps you says: Do not be afraid, O Jacob, my servant, O dear Israel, my chosen one."

The Pronunciation of Jeshurun

                          J---eh--- sh - uh---r---uh-n
Jug- pet- Ship-up- rat-up-no

To conclude:

Jeshurun is found in New International Version, New American Standard Bible, English Standard Version, The Message, Holman Christian Standard Bible, Amplified Bible, New Life Version and Darby Translation Jesurun is found in King James Version O dear Israel is found in New Living Translation.

Is Jeshurun the Lord' chosen people in the Quran?

No, they are not.

The Quran declares clearly that there is no a specific nation(s) which is the Lord' people. Also, the Prophet Muhammad said that there no privileges for the Arabic over the non-Arabic and also there no privileges for the white over the black except in respect to the Lord fearing. The more you fear your Lord, the more you are close to Him.Again, in order to confuse, the Quran says in two verses [2:47 and 2:122] that Allah favored the children of Israel. This happened at the time of Pharaoh and Moses when the children of Israel were believers and fear of their Lord.

Verse 49:13 of the Noble Quran announces that:

O mankind! Allah has indeed created you male and female from Adam and Eve, and has made you nations and tribes that you may come to know one another. This means that you may acquire knowledge of the customs of one another and not to boast to one another.Truly the noblest of you in the sight of God is the most God-fearing among you.Lo! The noblest of you in the Hereafter, (in the sight of Allah) on the Day of Judgment, (is the best in conduct) in the life of the world;

Truly God is Knower, of you, Aware, of your inner thoughts. Lo! Allah is Knower of your status and lineage; Allah is Aware of your works and standing in His sight.

Verse 49:13 of the Noble Quran in different translations:

QARIB: people, we have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes that you might know one another. The noblest of you before Allah is the most righteous of you. Allah is the knower, the aware.

SHAKIR: O you men! surely we have created you of a male and a female, and made you tribes and families that you may know each other; surely the most honorable of you with Allah is the one among you most careful (of his duty); surely Allah is knowing, aware

PICKTHAL: O mankind! lo! we have created you male and female, and have made you nations and tribes that ye may know one another. lo! The noblest of you, in the sight of Allah, is the best in conduct. Lo! Allah is knower, aware.

YUSUFALI: O mankind! we created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. and Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).

Jeshurun is the Lord's Chosen people in the Bible and God is going to fullfill His covenant made with Abraham to David and  with his people.Amidst of growing Anti-Semitism throughout the world and the Iran threatening to annihilate Israel will be doomed to its own destruction.Already we have seen a process started by UN to sanction against  the Iran and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden says he expects the United Nations will impose a new round of sanctions against Iran for its nuclear defiance by the beginning of next month.

In an appearance Thursday on a U.S. television talk show, Biden said China will agree to the sanctions.

He said the world for the first time is unified that Iran is out of line regarding its nuclear program.

China, which has close trade ties with Iran, has been reluctant to impose tough sanctions against Tehran.

U.N. diplomats are conducting closed-door negotiations on a fourth sanctions resolution against Iran for its refusal to stop enriching uranium, a process that can be used to make nuclear weapons.

Iran says its atomic program is for peaceful purposes.

Biden also said Thursday that Israel has agreed to wait and see the potential impact of new sanctions before considering a military strike on Iran.

Israel considers Iran a threat and has not ruled out a preemptive military strike against the Islamic republic because of its nuclear program.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for Israel to be "wiped off the map."But God's Promise to Israel" is:

GOD WILL MAKE A WAY!

Unknown | Friday, April 16, 2010 | Best Blogger Tips 2 Comments so far

How wonder it is to see that wonder working creator in whose Unique name “Yahshua the Massiach” [The Lion & The King of tribe of Judah] we believed. There is a beautiful song by Don Moen which goes like this :
God Will Make A Way
Words and music by Don Moen
Proverbs 3:6
"In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. "

God will make a way,
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way.

By a roadway in the wilderness, He'll lead me
And rivers in the desert will I see
Heaven and earth will fade
But His Word will still remain
He will do something new today.
God will make a way,
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

My friend there will be a different task in our day to day lives to be encountered.Things may seem to be grim and hopeless.Wahtever the situation of our life you can still here the small “Voice of God” talking to you.
Do you trust the LORD that he will wonderfully makes a way,a solution to our problem,He will guide us to the still calm waters. Each new days are a new blessings to those who really trust in him.The God Of Israel whose word can be trustworthy, who called you with a purpose the purpose is to bring the people to the living word Jesus Christ.Whatever the profession, whatever the situation in our lives do not look at the circumstances but focusing on God and fulfilling his purpose in our lives are more important.there is a saying:

“Don’t tell God how big is your problem ,tell Your problem How big is your God!”.Is it not true that How Big is our God,How wiser is our God,How Almighty is our God.

We see in Mark 2:4-6 that four people had brought a paralytic person to the speaking words of Jesus Christ. This is the real purpose God has chosen you and me. In all our ways to bring glory to God.

So the situation is how tremendous is your problem! How drastic is your situation. Here are the few spiritual formulae to uplift you from the divine source called Bible. Many times we neglect God given education, skillset, material, money,Job etc.We think that they are counted for nothing,We undersestimate they are of very little importance.Do not undersestimate the things and responsibilities god has given to you.Put them in the hands of God and you will see things change to see greater miracles in our lives.
A. Remmber the other faith formulas of Christian life.

B. Formula 1:When you doesn’t have enough money in your hand ? what will you do? Humanly speaking we try our level best to acquire the maximum amount .
What is God’s Formula for this? God ‘s formula for this is my son don’t take risk ,just keep that little money in my hands,so that I can bless your little to become abundance. We see that five loaves and 2 small fish has been able to be fed to More than 5000 people and 12 baskets remaining.

God here wants us to teach that God has manifold ways to bless us. One way God wants us to bless us with enough money in our pockets and other way to meet the same requirements even with the little money. Some Men of God are blessed with luxurios life like Creflo Dollar is blessed with a Benz Car and with royal residence. Bro.Bakth singh even without Benz and royal residence was able to do greater works for the glory of God.So the formula is in every situation is to submit that little things given by God to you Into the same Hands of God to bless it again Abundantly [This is also called as [Reverse Blessings Process Reverse Blessings]!That’s it! You will see a greater miracle happening in your life with this formulae.

C. The widow having little was able to fill many jars

1 Elisha, who was God’s prophet at this time, had an itinerate ministry over Israel. He would visit these schools regularly and instruct them. These men were the faithful few who swam upstream against the current. Surely God would demonstrate through them the material prosperity that he had promised to the faithful. That would just make sense! But instead, 2 Kings 4 explodes with all its seeming inconsistency before our eyes.

Look at 2 Kings 4, starting at verse 1 (NIV):
The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, "Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the LORD. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves."

Can you just see her, facing Elisha? “Your servant, my husband, revered the Lord! You know him! He is your student! You know that he was a godly man. Now he’s dead!” What was her problem? “Why has this calamity happened to us? Why didn’t the promises of prosperity to the righteous come true for us? Why did my husband die in the prime of life before he could straighten out our financial difficulties and provide for his family? It’s not fair!” Have you ever thought that? “I’ve lost a good husband, and now I’m going to lose my sons to pay his debts, and they are going to become slaves! Someone else is going to own them like property!” She had a valid complaint! She, no doubt, had supported her husband’s vision and his goals. She had been an efficient housewife. After his death she used up all their resources to pay their debts, and now she was reduced to nothing. There was nothing left!

She had some little oil and she obeyed what was said by the prophet, eventhough she was nervous she trusted the lord by the sayings of Elisha. With boldness and courage she went ans asked the neighbours for the empty jars.It was the obligation of the neighbours to help the people who were in need but since she had nothing nobody dared to help her in her trouble.Even she might not mentally sure that the neighbours would contribute the empty jars having trust in her.But she trusted and there was huge market for the olive oil on those days exactly God fulfilled her need and she was released from her debts. That’s it submitting the little into the same hands of God who has given us the little things of this world!

D. The small stick in the hands of moses was able to perform greater miracles.

.As you may know, when God called Moses to deliver Israel from Egypt, Moses was not very enthusiastic at first. He gave many excuses why he should not be the chosen one.
Exodus 4:1

Then Moses said, “What if they will not believe me or listen to what I say? For they may say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’ ” How would you have answered if God told you to go to your former home where you were a ruler over the slaves and go to the king and tell him that you were told be God to get all the slaves out of there and leave them with no one to do all the work?
In Exodus 4:2 we read

“The Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.”
So after some back and forth, God simply asked Moses what was in his hand. He was holding a stick! With that stick, God will use Moses to save a nation.

Today, God will appeal to Christians to ask you about something that you have. When he does, He expects you to use it. I hear too often from Christians that they do not have the skills to do great things. Well to them I say look what God did with a stick that Moses was holding.

You see you do have a gift. It may be the gift of teaching, sharing, selling, or even organizing a closet. When you turn that gift over to God, you can do miraculous things. When Moses turned that “stick” over to God, it became “The Rod of God!”

With this measly little stick, look what Moses did. First, he turned it into a snake. It was used to bring many plagues that was brought upon Egypt including turning all the fresh drinking water into blood. It was also used to open the Red Sea that would not only bring all of of Israel to safety but also destroy Pharaoh’s Army. Later this “stick” was used to bring water from a rock! This gave the people their children and their livestock water to drink! Then this stick which Moses turned over to God, was used to defeat the army of Amalek.
You see when God asked Moses what was in his hand, he replied with something like “nothing much just a stick.” It could have been a stick that Moses used as a walking stick or a shepherd’s crook. It was really nothing special. But when turned over to God, this stick became one of the most powerful tools in the history of the world!

So if God can turn a simple ordinary stick into one of the most powerful tools in the world, what do you think He can do with some of the more amazing skills and gifts that you have? You may be a husband, wife, mother, father, teacher, manager, business owner, lawyer, teacher doctor, retail clerk, accountant, or simply someone with skills that you think are insignificant but when turned over to God, can and will become a powerful tool!
You may think that what you have “in your hand” or the skill that you don’t even realize that you have as small or insignificant but when turned over to God and used for God, miraculous things will happen.

E. The five pebbles in the hands of david was able to kill the great giant Goliath.

A FATHER LOVE LETTER TO HIS DAUGHTER !

Perhaps right now, even as you read these words, you are experiencing heaviness of heart. You might be facing unbelievable hardships that no one else knows about. Be encouraged, my friend. You are not alone. Say aloud, "If God is for us, who is against us?" (Rom. 8:31). Say it again. Repeat it over and over until it becomes a part of you. Let this biblical challenge ring forth from within your spirit and echo through the chasm of your troubles. If God is for us, who can ever be against us? First Peter 1:5 reminds us we are under God's protection. Think about what that means: absolutely nothing can touch us unless God allows it. Moreover, Jesus promises us in John 15:4 that as we remain in Him, He remains in us. We are protected through and through! We have an almighty defender standing between us and the world. It is as though the Father says to our Enemy, "If you want My child, you've got to come through Me first." Whatever hardship comes into our lives must first pass through God's divine, all-loving hands. Of course, we may still experience hurt and loss, but we'll be aware that our Father has permitted it for some higher purpose. And in that, we'll know that we have the power to overcome--and never have to face the struggle alone. Promise: What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Romans 8:31 (New Living Translation).

YOM HASHOAH

Unknown | Sunday, April 11, 2010 | Best Blogger Tips Be the first to comment!

It has been over 60 years since the Holocaust. To survivors, the Holocaust remains real and ever-present, but for some others, sixty years makes the Holocaust seem part of ancient history. Year-round we try to teach and inform others about the horrors of the Holocaust. We confront the questions of what happened? How did it happen? How could it happen? Could it happen again? We attempt to fight against ignorance with education and against disbelief with proof.

But there is one day in the year when we make a special effort to remember (Zachor). Upon this one day, we remember those that suffered, those that fought, and those that died. Six million Jews were murdered. Many families were completely decimated.
Why this day?

Jewish history is long and filled with many stories of slavery and freedom, sorrow and joy, persecution and redemption. For Jews, their history, their family, and their relationship with God have shaped their religion and their identity. The Hebrew calendar is filled with varied holidays that incorporate and reiterate the history and tradition of the Jewish people.

After the horrors of the Holocaust, Jews wanted a day to memorialize this tragedy. But what day? The Holocaust spanned years with suffering and death spread throughout these years of terror. No one day stood out as representative of this destruction.
So various days were suggested.
• The tenth of Tevet was proffered. This day is Asarah B'Tevet and marks the beginning of the siege of Jerusalem. But this day holds no direct relation or tie to the Holocaust.

• The Zionists in Israel, many of whom had fought in the ghettos or as partisans, wanted to commemorate the beginning of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising - April 19, 1943. But this date on the Hebrew calendar is the 14th of Nissan - the day before Passover, a very important and happy holiday. Orthodox Jews objected to this date.

For two years, the date was debated. Finally, in 1950, compromises and bargaining began. The 27th of Nissan was chosen, which falls beyond Passover but within the time span of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Orthodox Jews still did not like this date because it was a day of mourning within the traditionally happy month of Nissan. As a final effort to compromise, it was decided that if the 27th of Nissan would affect Shabbat (fall on Friday or Saturday), then it would be moved. If the 27th of Nissan falls on a Friday, Holocaust Remembrance Day is moved to the preceding Thursday. If the 27th of Nissan falls on a Sunday, then Holocaust Remembrance Day is moved to the following Monday.

On April 12, 1951, the Knesset (Israel's parliament) proclaimed Yom Hashoah U'Mered HaGetaot (Holocaust and Ghetto Revolt Remembrance Day) to be the 27th of Nissan. The name later became known as Yom Hashoah Ve Hagevurah (Devastation and Heroism Day) and even later simplified to Yom Hashoah.

This year, Yom Hashoah will be on April 12, 2010

How is it observed?
Since Yom Hashoah is a relatively new holiday, there are no set rules or rituals. What kind of ritual could represent the Holocaust?
There are various beliefs about what is and is not appropriate on this day - and many of them are conflicting. In general, Yom Hashoah has been observed with candlelighting, speakers, poems, prayers, and singing. Often, six candles are lighted to represent the six million. Holocaust survivors speak about their experiences or share in the readings. Some ceremonies have people read from the Book of Names for certain lengths of time in an effort to remember those that died and to give an understanding of the huge number of victims. Sometimes these ceremonies are held in a cemetery or near a Holocaust memorial.

In Israel, the Knesset made Yom Hashoah a national public holiday in 1959 and in 1961 a law was passed that closed all public entertainment on Yom Hashoah. At ten in the morning, a siren is sounded where everyone stops what they are doing, pull over in their cars, and stand in remembrance.

In whatever form you observe Yom Hashoah, the memory of the Jewish victims will live on.
