HOLDING THE EXPLOSIVE TONGUE

Is not sins of the tongue  is evil ? Before we begin our Bible study Let us recite this verses: A.“ Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path”. ( Psalm 119:105) B.“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” ( John 4:24) If you are new to the Bible then recite this verses: A."For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). B.“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him" (John 3:36). KING of Jeshurun Devotions on Psalms 31:13 "For I hear many whispering,    “Terror on every side!” They conspire against me    and plot to take my life". David although undergoing serious Divine discipline still he was able to listen the whispers of  many.What were they whispering about him? They want to see David life to be ruined and at last they got some fault in his life and started whispering as if they consist no sin in their life.The Bible says : "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us" ( I John 1:8-10).  whispering is everywhere Those whispering about David were the same people who belongs to same brotherhood,who have same prayers and same law but were exhibiting hypocrisy."The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men--robbers, evildoers, adulterers--or even like this tax collector" (Luke 18:11).The other version for the word whisper is slander.Slandering is a verbal sin by which many are entangled and defiling their minds ,heart,soul and spirit.People are fast to find faults but not as fast to find the good things in others.They knew the David background very well,he was a shepherd boy with no scholastics but the Divine law Holding the tongue was in his heart.He was never been to a military academy but still a great warrior which could kill the giant Goliath by the power of faith in God.His own brothers were jealousy and discouraged him at some point of  his life when David moving forward to kill Goliath.Lot of people were envy because David was not born into a royal family but came from a poor background."I am a worm, and no man" (Psa. 22:6).Only God’s love has brought him to such a greater blessing in his life but the envy and slander of his enemies still continued amidst of his distress fleeing away from the kingdom.Slander really hurts it is more harm than murder.Carnal Christian attitude is revealed in the from of slandering.A spirit filled Christian never tries to slander on any one because and keeps himself pure by non defiling his divinely bestowed tongue,body,heart,soul and spirit.Even though David was a man after God’s own heart due to a sin and family disturbances has brought a lot of grief in his life.Most of the time it is the slander of the people which  hurts the man to a greater extent.Due to the sins of the tongue he could see the terror from every side of his life as if they were plotting to take his life.Slandering is like murder.How much harm is there by the tongue of Man both to himself and others if it is not under self-control. Lying tongue Regarding the variety of the sins of tongue Bible instructs the believer to avoid the following : 1.The Lying Tongue : Prov 6:17 “haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,” 2.The Flattering Tongue:Psalms 5:9  “For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue”. 3.The Proud Tongue :Psalm 12:3 “The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things”. 4.The Swift Tongue : Psalm 18:13 “He who answers before listening--that is his folly and his shame”. 5.The Backbiting Tongue : Prov 25:23 “The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue”. Proud tongue 6.The Talebearing Tongue : Prov  18:8 “The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly”.  7.The Cursing Tongue : Psalm 109: 17-18 “He loved to put curses [on others], so he, too, was cursed. He did not like to bless [others], so he never received a blessing.Cursing is as natural to him as his clothing, or the water he drinks, or the rich food he eats.”. 8.The Piercing Tongue :Prov 12:18 “Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing”. Taste and speak good things of life 9.The Silent Tongue :Luke 9:26 “If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels”. Dear Reader we have seen the 9 sins of the tongue but the Bible instructs to have the praising tongue so that we can taste the divine good in our life. 10.The Praising Tongue : Psalm 35:28 "My tongue will speak of your righteousness and of your praises all day long". Psalm 71:8 "My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. Let’s pray:Our father in heaven! We pray that you give us divine wisdom to reflect you in our day to day life by taming our tongues and keep ourselves being polluted from the world and reflecting your attitude without keeping silent in revealing Christ and gospel with perseverance and be blessed.In Jesus Name we pray! Amen!

Regarding the variety of the sins of tongue Bible instructs the believer to avoid the following :

2.The Flattering Tongue:Psalms 5:9  “For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue”.

Dear Reader we have seen the 9 sins of the tongue but the Bible instructs to have the praising tongue so that we can taste the divine good in our life.

It is wise to tame the tongue

James 1:19-27 “My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.
